Sweet Charity

To close out our 2025 Concert Series, Prospero Arts and QPAC presented Sweet Charity: A Hopelessly Romantic Musical - In Concert.

Following her success as Jane Seymour in the hugely popular Six, Loren Hunter charmed us all as Charity Hope Valentine – a sentimental dance hall hostess in New York City. With a tuneful, groovy, mid-1960s score by Cy Coleman, and sparkling lyrics by Dorothy Fields, this hilarious story was written by Neil Simon and originally conceived and choreographed on Broadway by the legendary Bob Fosse.

Loren was joined by the incomparable Simon Burke (Vittorio), straight from the Australasian tour of Wicked, which was preceded by his award-winning rendition of Zidler in Moulin Rouge, and an overwhelming list of starring roles in major touring productions including Hairspray, Mary Poppins, Chicago, Les Miserables, The Sound of Music and The Phantom of the Opera.

This star-studded cast of musical theatre favourites also featured Jake Speer (Home and Away, Catch Me If You Can), Sean Sinclair (Calamity Jane, Hamilton), Kristina McNamara (Chicago, West Side Story), Angelina Thomson (Home and Away, West Side Story) and Suzanne Steele (Annie, Beauty and The Beast).

They were backed by a brilliant ensemble of national and Queensland-based talent: Anthony Garcia, Brandon Dowery, Ella Harding, Julian Seguna, Kye Hall, Leah Lim, Lisa Callingham, Mateja Sardelis, and Sarah Bakker.

The acclaimed Cameron Mitchell captured all the energy, humour, and heartbreak of Life in the Big Apple with his cutting edge choreography and clever direction, as Sweet Charity ensured an unforgettable night of classic musical theatre. Renowned Maestro, Michael Tyack, led an onstage 16 piece band, featuring big favourites like “Big Spender,” “If My Friends Could See Me Now,” and “Rhythm of Life”, performed by some of the best triple threats in the country.
